Report 1: Summer Teams 2018

Manchester International Outreach (MIO)

On the first Sunday the team was commissioned at Grace Church and later prayed for at Holy Trinity Platt.
Each morning the team met for a training seminar on various cross-cultural topics, to equip them for relating to the international students during the evening cafés. In the afternoons they did flyering at the language schools and universities, inviting the students to the evening café.
Many students came every evening and enjoyed our varied programme. Some are looking into the Bible for the first time and are asking deep questions as they are challenged by the gospel.
Altogether there were over 85 new students who attended one or more of the cafés. These came from 20 different countries, many from Middle Eastern countries as well as South America, Europe and Asia (China being the top country followed by Saudi Arabia). 34 of these are interested in coming to church, 32 want hosting with a Christian family and 19 want to join a Bible study group.

The outreach follow-up is now in full swing where 10 different churches are each hosting an event and an international church guest service throughout the rest of the summer.

Canterbruy Summer International Outreach (CSIO)

Throughout the 2 weeks we reached over 80 different students from some 35 different nationalities. During the day we had sports in the park for students to join, and we flyered and chatted to many more.

As a team we went along to Emmanuel Church on Sunday, three students from Japan and Poland came with us and another five students met us there. We had a great time of fellowship together, and the students admired the Christian hospitality by seeing that lunch had been provided for us.
On Wednesday we streamed England vs. Croatia; this was a big selling point to some of the Arabic boys we know from volleyball and sports in the afternoon, so they all came along with many other students and we all felt sorry about England's loss together.
Pray for all the students that came along to those events where food and football were used as a common ground to establish a friendship. Pray that these students may take a step and come along to events we're hosting in the future.
We are reminded of how important giving a simple flyer to someone can be; it can bring them through the doors where they can open up the Bible for themselves. Time and again we were thankful for many students who had turned up simply because they had received a flyer.
So many encouraging conversations were had over the last 2 weeks that I can't try and comment on all, but please pray that fruit will come.
